A Dorset Police officer has been sacked for gross misconduct for ‘behaving aggressively and using unreasonable force’ while arresting a teenage boy in Bournemouth town centre.
PC Lorne Castle tackled the boy to the ground, told him to “stop crying like a little b****” and shouted ‘stop resisting or I’m gonna smash you, do you understand?’:
In fairness to PC Lorne Castle, the youth was found to be carrying a knife, but that was around 4 minutes into the interaction and after the events seen in this video. He also was crying like a little b****, but that’s neither here nor there.
According to Dorset Police, PC Castle had been responding to information that the teenager may have been involved in an earlier suspected assault, but at no time was there any suggestion that a knife had been used.
In the end, a disciplinary hearing found that PC Castle had overstepped the mark, and he is now no longer working for the police.
PC Castle previously admitted misconduct in relation to breaching the standards of professional behaviour relating to authority, respect and courtesy, conduct and use of force but denied gross misconduct.
Amazingly, no further action was taken against the lad in relation to the reported assault, and he was issued with an out of court disposal for possessing a knife. That doesn’t seem right, does it? Not exactly sending out a tough message on knife crime.
Well anyway, best of luck to PC Castle on his future endeavours. It does seem like a bit of an unjust outcome, but at the end of the day, I suppose you can’t be acting like that when arresting people. Even though American coppers do it all the time!
