NEW HIP-HOP SUPERGROUP: PULLED OVER BY COPS

I am SO excited about this new supergroup comprised of one of my favourite hip-hop group The Cool Kids, along with Freddie Gibbs & Chip Tha Ripper! They have collaborated on a few tracks that are all produced by the Blended Babies, and fortunate enough for you we have a download of their new track ‘Authority’! It features Matthew Santos, a sick folk-singer who has been on a couple of Lupe Fiasco tracks, most notably ‘Superstar’. Although I was eagerly awaiting more Cool Kids stuff, I can’t wait to hear fresh material from Pulled Over by Cops when they get released later this year!

Laughable name aside, The Cool Kids – Chicago hip-hop artists and producers Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish – were actually really sick! Self-described as ‘the new black version of the beastie boys’ back in the early days of their career gives you an idea of the uniqueness of them. They gained attention from our good friend Diplo, who offered to release a mixtape of unreleased tracks ‘Totally Flossed Out’ on Mad Decent, as well as being offered to be signed up to A-Track’s label. Most of their tracks have been released on the Myspace and are signed to an independent label The Chocolate House.

I was lucky enough to see them perform at Glasgow Sub Club about 4 years ago; albeit to a crowd of only about 100 people. I didn’t know too much about them at the time, but on the recommendation of a friend I went to see them and I have been following their stuff ever since, waiting impatiently for them to come back to the UK. At the same time I wish these guys got more hype, I am also happy they haven’t soldout and gone mainstream; becoming manufactured shite that can no longer be called hip-hop, just to please the ears of the billboard chart fans.

Their planned 2008 debut album ‘When Fish Ride Bicycles’ is still yet to be released, so I was hopeful that it may be released in the near future when they sort out all their record label shit. Regardless of whether they do or not, I am just stoked that they are back!
