You may remember the saga around this incident at Manchester Airport last year, after a clip went viral of a police officer kicking and stamping a man on the head, after that man had punched a female officer in the face and broken her nose.

This week, new footage of the incident was shown at Liverpool Crown Court which shows the moment things turned physical, and how brutal things got. Warning – sensitive footage that involves brutal violence against a female officer:

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his brother, Muhammad Amaad, 26, attacked the officers after Amaaz allegedly headbutted a customer at a Starbucks in Terminal 2 on July 23 last year. As you can see in the footage, the men resist arrest, and it all kicks off from there.

Initially, PC Zachary Marsden came under intense scrutiny for the level of violence displayed in the clip below – which wound up online before anyone knew the full context of the situation:

Somewhat understandable after you’ve see the full picture, some might say.

PC Marsden was especially concerned that one of men could grab his firearm, after he felt an ‘immense weight of pressure’ to his right side and felt his Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol move across his leg and around his body.

He told the court: ‘My initial fear is that someone is trying to get my gun. If someone gained my firearm it would pose an immediate lethal threat to anyone in the vicinity.

‘The risk of my firearm being taken from me did not stop until we gained control.

‘There was more than one person involved here – the aggressor I was trying to arrest and possibly an accomplice who was a much bigger physical build than me and much taller.’

Amaaz denies three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to the three police officers and one count of assault to Abdulkareem Ismaeil (the customer at Starbucks). Meanwhile, Amaad denies one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to PC Marsden.

The trial continues today [Tuesday July 8] when PC Marsden will be cross-examined by the defence. Here’s hoping common sense prevails when it’s all said and done.
