I kinda thought that we were over Coronavirus at this point and even when a couple of my friends said that they had tested positive for the virus I just laughed it off, but apparently there’s another new variant in the country that has already been causing chaos in India.

The variant is called ‘Arcturus’ and is another offshoot of Omicron with 50 cases already detected in the UK and hospitals being put on red alert. However, despite the fact that 40,215 active Covid cases were recorded on April 12 in India – an increase of 3,122 in just one day, mainly attributed to Arcturus – the new strain isn’t expected to have a major effect in this country.

Here’s what Professor Paul Hunter, an expert in infectious diseases from the University of East Anglia, had to say about it:

Although in India it has taken off in the past few weeks so far it has not been increasing rapidly globally.

I suspect we will see a wave of infections with this variant but I doubt it will cause a big wave probably not even as great as the one we have just had in the UK and so probably not put as great a pressure on health services than recently.

Cool sentence bro! Really couldn’t use any punctuation there or split it up into easier to understand sentences could you?

Anyway, I don’t think anyone really needs to be too worried about this new variant, but it’s just a reminder that Coronavirus probably isn’t ever going to go away and stuff like this is probably going to happen every year now for the foreseeable future. At least for most people it’s just like having a bit of a cold these days. Still annoying though.

For more of the same, check out when people were having COVID parties to deliberately catch the virus. That was pretty wild.
