Anyone who’s seen that horrific video of German tattoo artist Shani Louk being paraded around the street in the back of a Hamas pickup truck would conclude that the 22-year-old was already dead, but according to her mum, Shani is still alive in a Hamas hospital:

Her mother, Ricarda Louk, told German outlet Bild: “We now have evidence that Shani is alive but has a serious head injury and is in critical condition. Every minute is critical. [Germany] has to act quickly and get Shani out of the Gaza Strip! We shouldn’t argue about questions of jurisdiction now!”

Reading that Shani is in critical condition makes it more plausible that she’s alive, given that she’s unconscious and very severely wounded in that clip. Hamas had previously claimed the body was a female Israeli soldier – but Shani’s family were able to identify her by her dreadlocked hair and leg tattoos.

Shani Louk

Here’s hoping that the information that Shani’s family have received is correct, and that by some miracle Shani is able to return home and make a full recovery. Can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like for her friends and family waiting by the phone or scrolling social media for any updates.
