Amongst these many themes and collections are a few that rank just a little bit higher than the rest. With this in mind, join us as we take you on a journey to discover the top three most popular online Slots and discover why they’re enjoyed by so many.

Read on to find out more.

THEME #1: Egyptian

Our first stop is Ancient Egypt – a virtual destination that has been incredibly popular for quite some time now. No matter where you play; be it online or in-person, you are almost guaranteed to find a whole host of Egyptian-themed Slots ready and waiting for you to take a spin.

This desire to walk like an Egyptian across a set of potentially lucrative reels arguably originated from the pop culture craze that took the world by storm in the 20th century. It was then that Egyptian artefacts were starting to be displayed in museums and the sandy pyramids found their place on movie sets.

From here, the theme found its way onto the gaming scene, mostly demonstrated through symbols and surrounding graphics in your favourite slot games. Expect to find the Egyptian god Ra, scarab beetles and even more golden pyramids spinning onto the reels, and representing many of the games’ higher value symbols.

THEME #2: Fruity

Present in one of the earliest forms of the slot machine, fruit-themed symbols are a staple in all Slots gaming. These juicy icons first appeared on the reels in 1902, when Chicago-based manufacturer Herbert Mills came out with the Operator Bell. Following in the footsteps of Sittman and Pitt, and Charles Fey, Mills’ creation was the first to feature these fruity symbols.

Players could expect to find cherries, melons, apples and oranges – with each fruit paying out a sweet or piece of gum that was a corresponding flavour. Just like Slots today, the way to win was simply rolling in three or more of any of these tasty symbols. Some things just never change!

THEME #3: Retro

Not straying too far from the theme we mentioned above, it appears that modern players still enjoy a blast from the past when they take the Slots reels for a spin. Nowadays, you’ll often find 80’s inspired games, filled to the brim with all thing’s neon, and a funky soundtrack to back it up.

As well as being retro in their pop culture references, there’s also slot games that are reminiscent of the game’s humble beginnings. Although now available online, many Slots are clearly inspired by those original slot machines, that had a simple design and easy to play format. It’s in these games that you should expect to find standard playing card icons, BAR symbols and multiple variations of the lucky 7.

Whilst we may have moved in leaps and bounds when it comes to technology, it’s clear to see that Slots games will still strive to pay respect to how the phenomenon began.
