A Lidl warehouse worker obsessed with the Dunblane and Columbine mass shootings turned his home into a weapons factory as he plotted his own ‘revenge’ attack on his old school, having written up a 1,700-word manifesto where he named 10 ex-classmates, teachers and police staff as targets.

Fortunately, word got out that Reed Wischhusen, 32, was converting black firearms into lethal ones at his address in Somerset, and armed police paid him a visit. He seems fairly timid and compliant at the beginning, but after asking to use the bathroom, all hell breaks loose:

Apparently the first gunshot that officers heard from the bathroom was Wischhusen’s attempt at killing himself, which completely failed. He then rushed down the stairs pointing his gun at the officers and was shot three times. He survived but spent four months in hospital recovering from his injuries.

Here’s an excerpt from Reed Wischhusen’s manifesto that has been doing the rounds:

Great job by the officers for dealing with a situation that seemed to catch them completely by surprise. Absolutely justified in opening fire after two or three shouts of “put the gun down”, which Wischhusen completely ignored. Better him than all the innocent victims he was plotting to gun down, that’s for sure.
