In yet another tragic example that you never know what the most seemingly privileged people are going through, model and influencer Niece Waidhofer has been found dead by suicide following a ‘long battle with mental health issues’.

Her family told TMZ:

Sadly, Niece took her own life after a long battle with mental health issues. She was very open with her followers about her struggles, even wanting to help followers who also suffered.

A nonprofit titled “Peace From Niece” is set to be created in her honour, which will aid mental health awareness and fund mental illness research.

Niece had 4.2 million followers on her Instagram, where she posted regularly. In the weeks leading up to her death, she only put up 3 posts.

We actually wrote about Niece 5 years ago when she bravely put herself in the firing line of Reddit’s /RoastMe section and went viral in the process.

There’s some suggestion online that this contributed to the tragic recent events, but that seems silly considering the Reddit thread is over 5 years old. In her own way, she probably participated in the Reddit roast to make herself smile and feel better.

If you try to check out the thread now, guess what? The mods have deleted all the comments…

Just a really tough and sad story that serves as a reminder that literally anyone you meet could be going through it, no matter how attractive or successful or happy they appear to be.
