A Miami-Dade lieutenant deputy who allegedly punched a woman he brought home after realising she had a penis has been cleared of all criminal charges.
54-year-old Lt. Daniel Chala had no idea the woman was transgender and he claims she made no attempt to let him know it.
Chala was arrested in April for allegedly battering the transgender woman, who he met at E11even nightclub in Miami and took back home for some drunken action.

Once inside Chala’s apartment, the victim told authorities that she took off her shoes, walked to Chala’s bedroom, and sat on his bed. The two kissed, and then the suspect “asked the victim a question, which confused the victim due to it being previously answered.”
When Chala realised he was kissing a trans woman, things allegedly got physical.
Defense attorney Susy Ribero-Ayala said:
“This person came in under false pretenses and my client escorted this person out.
She represented at all times that she was a woman, when in fact she was a man.”
According to NBC, it looks like Chala was cleared of all charges only because the victim stopped cooperating and assisting with the investigation, which is a bit odd.
Now obviously if you’re a trans woman (or man) the right thing to do every time would be to let the person who is showing you romantic interest know that you are transgender, just in case they haven’t worked it out for themselves.
On this occasion, it seems Lieutenant Chala was drunk off his face, and so didn’t notice any clues. Perhaps the victim was so convincing that he wouldn’t have worked it out even if he was sober?
In any case, she did apparently tell him, but he either didn’t hear it or she’s made that part up. By the time he found out, it was too late. He was kissing a biological male and clearly this was devastating realisation for the guy. Does that warrant a (alleged) physical assault, though?
Well, either way, best of luck to the pair of them on their future romantic endeavours.
