McDonald’s Is Reopening In Kyiv As Ukraine ‘Edges Closer To Victory’

The Russian invasion of Ukraine hasn’t quite panned out the way Putin planned, and that’s never been more evident than now as Kyiv reopened THREE branches of McDonald’s this week, with many more in the capital and some further west scheduled to follow.

For now, the branches are open for delivery only, but McDonald’s announced they will resume typical operations in October, signaling that big businesses are confident Ukraine is edging closer to victory.

Naturally, there are evacuation plans in place in the event of air raid to allow staff and customers to reach their nearest shelter, but not before the McDonald’s team ‘quickly issue any orders already paid for’. Priorities! Alesya Mudzhyri, head of corporate communications in Ukraine, says:

‘The newly opened restaurants will operate according to the same high standards of food quality, cleanliness and speed of service as before.’

It comes as Ukrainian forces have made major gains in their fight against Putin’s army, which has now abandoned key strategic cities including Melitopol, and are retreating towards the Russian border. Just this month, 300 settlements in the northeast Kharviv region have been liberated.

In a televised address, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said:

‘The occupiers are clearly in a panic.

The speed at which our troops are moving. The speed in restoring normal life.’

Meanwhile in Russia, they’re stuck with ‘Vkusno i Tochka’, which opened after McDonald’s suspended their business in June following Putin’s invasion. Despite promising the same menu, same employees, just a different name and logo, the chain has received less than stellar reviews following complaints about mouldy burger buns, chip shortages, and insect legs in the food. Not even joking, get a load of these pics doing the rounds on Russian social media:

McDonald’s operations in Russia were worth around 9% of its annual revenue, which is equivalent to £1.48 billion. Clearly Putin is too much of a stubborn lunatic to accept he’s shot himself in the foot in a million different ways since beginning this invasion, but it remains to be seen whether he concedes defeat (yeah right) or pushes on until his troops completely abandon him.

Can’t wait to see the photos of Ukrainians munching proper McDonald’s all over Russian socials this week. Even better than planting a massive Ukrainian flag into the ground! Yeah OK the ice cream machines are probably still f*cked, but come on, there’s a war going on. Cut them a bit of slack.
