A man whose bare backside was exposed to the world on Google Street View has won more than £9,000 in compensation.

The Argentinian policeman sought compensation from Google for harm to his dignity, claiming he was behind a two-meter wall when the Google Street View car’s camera captured him in the buff, from behind, in his small town in Buenos Aires in 2017.

His house number and street name were also visible, Argentinian TV covered the story, and the picture of his bum was shared widely on social media.

The man claimed he’s been ridiculed over it by his friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and social media trolls for years.

In the end, the man was awarded £9,600 in compensation (or the Argentine pesos equivalent) after a lengthy legal battle, with judges ruling Google had invaded his privacy.

Initially, another court dismissed the man’s claim for damages, ruling he only had himself to blame for “walking around in inappropriate conditions in the garden of his home.”

Google also argued that the perimeter wall was not high enough. Which is a bit of a BS argument, because the Google camera is mounted high on the car, which is the reason it was able to capture the man naked in the first place.

Appeal judges, however, sided with the man whose butt had been plastered on the internet for billions of people to see, and ordered Google to pay up. £9,000? Literally a drop in the ocean.

The judges wrote: ‘This involves an image of a person that was not captured in a public space but within the confines of their home, behind a fence taller than the average-sized person. The invasion of privacy… is blatant.

‘There is no doubt that in this case there was an arbitrary intrusion into another’s life’.

Not a bad way to fall into a bunch of money eh? Apparently you can go on the Street View website and find out when the Street View car will be in your area under the ‘Where we are mapping’ section. Could be a decent little earner in it for you if you decide to walk around naked in your garden or at your window at the exact moment the Street View car drives by. If your naked body ends up online once the Maps are updated, you’re laughing all the way to the bank. Maybe more if you have a particularly small penis? It’s worth a shot.
