A Manchester dad has been charged with murder after being accused of driving his car into a boy riding an e-bike, after the boy had allegedly robbed his son.
Terrence King, 59, of Castlerrigg Drive, Middleton, has been charged with the murder of Devon Simmonds, 15, who died in the crash as he cycled in his neighbourhood in Middleton.
The articles in the Metro etc don’t mention the alleged backstory, but the allegation on X/Twitter/TikTok is that Simmonds stole the bike at knifepoint from King’s son. King saw red and ‘resolved’ the situation by driving his car full-speed into Simmons as he rode the e-bike away from the scene of the crime.
There’s CCTV footage online showing as much, but we can’t share it here because it features the lad’s death.
DI Andrew Naismith, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: ‘This investigation is already moving at considerable pace and we have now secured a murder charge as part of our work.
‘There is still much to do, and our officers are carefully combing through all available evidence to build a picture of the events of that day.
‘I am aware of footage of the incident circulating online, and I would ask people to not share this footage due to ongoing proceedings, and out of respect for the boy’s family, who I would remind people are grieving at this time.’
Fair enough really. I know a lot of people will feel sympathetic toward King now that he’s almost certainly going to jail for murder, but at the end of the day, you can’t be running teenagers over (or anyone for that matter) because they robbed your son at knifepoint. As much as the temptation is there, it’s just not a very good idea. Now a family have lost their 15-year-old son and brother, and another family is going to lose their husband and dad for a very long time.
One resident who knew of Simmonds said: ‘He was a top, top lad. Lived on this estate all his life and a lot of people knew him.
‘He was very respectable, obviously it’s a horrible thing to happen to him and his family.’
His buddies have also been paying tribute by tagging his name in the area:
Just a tragic situation for everyone involved really. I’m sure we’ll get more of the ‘juicy’ details once Metro, MailOnline et al are legally permitted to publish them, but that likely won’t be before King is sentenced for murder.
RIP Devon Simmonds and thoughts also with the family of Terrence King.
