A Manchester United season ticket holder has been banned from matches for three years for slapping Man City’s Jack Grealish after he called him a ‘little, ugly w**ker.’

Alfie Holt, 20, pleaded guilty to a single count of assault on Grealish following the incident at the Manchester derby last April.

Grealish didn’t just insult Holt out of the blue, of course. Holt explained to police how he was shouting abuse at City players, including Phil Foden, who ignored him. He then shouted “k**bhead” at Grealish, who fired back with “you little, ugly w**ker.”

I guess that must have touched a nerve because Holt then flipped out and slapped Grealish.

Holt also told police that he had been drinking in town with his dad before the game, which obviously is no excuse.

In fairness, he took full responsibility for his behaviour, telling the court: ‘I did not expect him to say what he said to me, and I have reacted. I regret it. That’s it.’

Melanie Winstantley, defending, said Holt had no previous convictions and had never been arrested before, so the incident was completely out of character for him.

In the end, Holt didn’t just receive a Football Banning Order for three years, but also had his season ticket revoked. Which is pretty brutal considering he’d had it for 12 years. That’s what you get for being a knob, I suppose.

I mean, how can you dish out insults to someone for no reason and then completely lose the plot when they insult you back?

The worst part about a Football Banning Order? It means that on each match day, Holt has to go to the nearest police station with his passport to prove he’s not at the game. I’m serious, you can look it up. Enjoy your next 156 weekends, pal!

In addition to that, Holt was fined £120, with £85 costs and a surcharge of £48.

It’s not the first time Jack Grealish has been assaulted at a game by a rival fan. Back in 2019, a Birmingham City supporter ran onto the pitch and punched him in the side of the head.
