Raving in the 90’s was a thing of beauty. Shell suits, happy hardcore and a shit load of XTC. In fact scrap that, it wasn’t a thing of beauty at all, raving in the 90’s looks like it was a sea of shell suit wearing, monster gurning, boys and girls who absolutely lived for the weekend, and they didn’t look too pretty while they were at it. Now-a-days when you enter a ‘rave’ (if you can even call them raves these days) you’re met with a sea of ket bumping MDMA bombing hipstermatics, who don’t actually look too different in the way they dress than the crowd in this video.
This video of a hardcore rave filmed way back in 1997 takes you deep into the heart of the punters. To be honest, I’m kinda going off raves these days and tend to opt for a quiet jazz bar over a filthy 12 hour warehouse rave that would knock me out for 3 weeks, so the idea of being there when this video was shot just seems like a nightmare to me. But you’ve gotta love how hard these guys are going for it though, they’re obviously really feeling that pumping kick drum and connecting with each other on a truly chemical level. Check it:
