A California high school track athlete has broken down in tears after her California state 400-meter gold medal was taken from her because she celebrated too much following her win.
Here’s the celebration that led to 16-year-old Clara Adams being disqualified for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’:

Literally just sprayed her shoes with a fire extinguisher, which is a pretty awesome and topical celebration to be fair. Even if it was a bit OTT, does it really warrant stripping the teenager of her gold medal? They’ve screwed her over big time here!
Clara is understandably devastated, saying she will “never get that moment back.”
“Even if everything goes in my favor … in regards to like getting my title back, I’ll still never get that moment back, like standing on the podium as a sophomore. I’ll never get that back ‘cause they took it from me.”
Of course, this is California we’re talking about, so maybe they were overly concerned with how the losers were feeling at that moment in time. Clara’s disqualification means that second place now takes first place, which sounds like the most undeserved gold medal in history. I mean, imagine earning a gold medal on a technicality? Are you really going to feel like you earned or deserve it?
At the end of the day, everyone at that school and watching at home knows that Clara Adams is the fastest 400m track athlete in the state. Just give her back her medal, California! Stop being such absolute wet wipes over everything.
