I haven’t watched ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ since I was a child – and that’s a really long time ago these days – but I remember being utterly captivated by it when it was shown on Saturday mornings on ‘What’s Up Doc?’, right from the first time I ever saw the iconic opening sequence and heard that Danny Elfman theme music. Such a bummer they always broke it up and we had to hear some nonsense from Andy Crane or whoever in between different segments.

Anyway, given the recent success of reboots and Batman movies, it’s kind of a surprise when you think about it that nobody has thought about bringing back ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ for a new generation, but it turns out that the guys at HBO Max have finally connected the dots and come up with a brainwave. The news comes courtesy of Kevin Smith’s ‘Fatman Beyond’ podcast where industry insider Marc Bernardin mentioned the rumour going around that HBO Max were looking at a continuation of the cartoon series.
Smith agreed that he had heard the same things, saying the following:
I don’t know what you’re talking about… I’m not involved, but I too have heard this and I’ve heard this from very reliable people.
When I heard it I freaked out, and I heard this…I would say a month before you just said it. I think that’s real, I don’t think that’s a rumor, I wouldn’t say ‘Set your watch to it,’ but it’s an idea whose time is not only coming, I think it came, and it’s smoking a cigarette.
I think that’s gonna happen.
How f*cking amazing would that be because you can just literally pick up and keep going.
It’s not like, oh we gotta explain why everyone’s older, it’s f*cking animation man so you can go right back to those amazing f*cking stories.
Guy has a point there and if they get the right team together then this could definitely be completely sick. Might have to rewatch some of the old episodes to get ready. Always loved the ones with Clayface.
