Anyone who is even vaguely interested in ‘Friends’ has almost certainly watched the reunion special by now – it seems to be on almost every hour of the day on Sky – and I doubt anyone really even paid much attention to David Schwimmer talking about how hard it was to work with Marcel the monkey for a few episodes of its runs.. It just seemed like a normal thing for the guy to say. Nobody likes working with animals or children, right?

Sadly though, there was one person who definitely took exception to Schwimmer’s words: Marcel’s former trainer Mike Morris, who decided to go to The Sun to vent his frustrations with the guy for saying that Marcel never hit his marks and was a frustrating co-star to work with:

I have never ever watched Friends because of Schwimmer’s comments about the monkeys.

I have refused to ever since he did an interview after the animals got written out of the show and he said they tried to bite him and throw poop at him. They didn’t do any of that. None of it is true, when I was there none of that ever happened.

I didn’t speak out back then but I am now.

Of course, I didn’t watch the reunion interview but I heard from others what Schwimmer said. I just don’t agree with it, if anything he threw off their timing if we want to be truthful.

Schwimmer was fine with the monkeys for the first couple of episodes and happy to be there.

But people would laugh at the monkey and I think he got jealous because it wasn’t him getting the laughs.

If you have an actor that’s not very helpful, it makes it even worse.

My colleague who also worked on the show says that people would laugh at the monkey and throw Schwimmer off. He’s not the kind of actor who can improvise.

The other capuchin who played Marcel was called Monkey and passed away recently away from cancer so Schwimmer was talking ill of the dead when he made those comments.

I find it despicable for him to still be speaking ill of her.

Wow. Mike Morris really doesn’t like it when someone talks shit about monkeys does he?

Having seen the show, I kinda got the impression that Schwimmer was just making a joke when he said that Marcel kind of sucked to work with, but Mike Morris has taken it to a whole different level with this bizarre butthurt rant and his one man crusade to never watch an episode of Friends because of it. I get that he likes animals but does he really need to (get paid a bunch of money to) talk to The Sun about it and be so emotional about the situation?

It almost seems like something that someone would make up because it’s so petty and insignificant and it’s crazy that he could get so wound up and vindictive about it. Very weird energy. Kinda feel like he might try and murder David Schwimmer after that. Be careful out there.
