With everything else that’s been going on recently, I had sort of forgotten that Jorge Masdival had ambushed Colby Covington outside a steak restaurant a few weeks ago after losing to him in the Octagon, but UFC President Dana White has finally decided to give us his opinion on the incident.

White was speaking on The Pat McAfee show when he decided to say the following:

First of all, in no way shape or form do I ever condone violence and my guys fighting each other in the streets or sh*t like that.

On the flip side, when you’re dealing with a guy like Jorge Masvidal and you start talking about his family, all these fighters listen, say what you want to say about me, you hate me, you think I’m ugly, you think I’m stupid – whatever my thing is.

When you start talking about people’s families, it goes to a whole other level, man.

You’ve got to understand these guys were actually friends and training partners, so they know intimate details about each other, about each other’s lives, about each other’s families.

There is something that’s called f*cking man code.

A lot of these young, goofy f*cking dudes these days don’t know about it – but they need to learn about it.

Yeah I can sort of understand what he’s saying there, but surely his man code thing should extend to not sucker punching people in the street like Masdival did to Covington? There’s also the fact that Masdival had 25 minutes in the ring with Covington to try and batter him but was convincingly outclassed, so it’s a major loser move for him to track Covington down and punch him in the back of his head whilst he’s trying to enjoy a nice steak dinner. Don’t think any of that really ties in with my definition of man code.

On top of all that, I know that dissing someone’s family isn’t very nice, but these people are literally in the fight game where everyone is as horrible as possible to each other before the bout to ensure that people tune in to watch it. Masdival should probably recognise that and grow up.

Don’t really think the UFC president should be trying to explain/justify Masdival’s actions but I suppose that’s nothing new from Dana White. Same old bullshit.

For more of the same, check out the footage from the steakhouse incident here. Very weird move from Masdival.
