Earlier this month we found out that Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer would not be a part of 24: Legacy — the upcoming 24 reboot. It’s now been announced the role is being filled by Corey Hawkins; the dude who played a young Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton.

Hawkins will play Eric Cater, a war veteran returning home to the US to be met with a fresh set of problems. His female opposite is yet to be cast.

I guess people are pretty bummed out that Kiefer Sutherland isn’t going to be in this so expectations are understandably low. I mean it’s a bit like remaking The Sopranos without Tony Soprano or Breaking Bad without Heisenberg. They’re all legendary characters who were pretty much the heart and soul of their respective shows, so replacing them is not going to be easy.

But… Corey Hawkins it is. Straight Outta Compton was a cool movie but does this guy have the action hero potential? Can he save humanity multiple times over in 24 hours? We’ll have to wait and see.
