More Brits abroad drugs lunacy this week as yet another British national was caught with obscene amounts of drugs on them in a foreign country: this time a 79-year-old pensioner from Somerset.

William ‘Billy Boy’ Eastment faces dying in south American jail after being intercepted at Santiago Airport in Chile with £200,000 worth of meth in his luggage.

He had arrived on a flight from Cancun on May 18 and was booked to travel to Sydney in Australia the next day, having been allegedly promised £4,000 by a Mexican gang to smuggle the suitcase, reports The Mirror.

A bowls-loving British pensioner who was 'found with £200,000 meth' in Chile has been pictured

The media is describing Billy as a ‘bowls-loving pensioner’, which is a pretty hilarious way of garnering empathy for him. His neighbours in Milborne Port, Somerset, were ‘shocked’ by the news and described him as ‘quiet’ and ‘just a simple pensioner.’

However, Billy’s ex-partner had a different view, telling MailOnline he was ‘always shouting and swearing’, and that ‘he had a hell of a temper and was always falling out with people.’

Falling out with people? This guy?

Eastment was known by neighbours in his home village of Milborne Port, Somerset as a quiet OAP and 'just a simple pensioner' who liked fishing

Retired bus fitter Billy is now awaiting trial behind bars in Santiago 1 Penitentiary, which I’m going to guess is not a very pleasant place to be.

Billy was busted after putting his suitcase through the airport scanner, leading officers to find a secret compartment where 5kg of the drugs had been packed. It was the first time Billy had ever entered Chile in his life.

Chilean police said the drugs he was caught with would have been worth around £200,000 on the streets of Chile.

Well, I suppose if you’re going to get busted smuggling drugs abroad and end up banged up for life in a foreign country, it may as well happen when you’re 79 years old. I just wonder how Billy got involved in this in the first place?

Are Mexican cartels scouting out OAPs in Somerset to do international drug running for them? I guess that is kind of clever, until you get to the part when you’re passing a suitcase packed with £200,000 of meth through an airport scanner. Not worth the risk, clearly.
