Even in a charity game, Italian footballing legend Leonardo Bonucci is going to put in tackles like there’s no tomorrow, and unfortunately England Women’s captain Steph Houghton was on the receiving end of one at Soccer Aid earlier.
It was actually a great tackle, but Bonucci completely wiped Houghton out as the World XI team beat England 5-4 at Old Trafford:

Not taking any prisoners there. Just completely folded her in half while also winning the ball, controlling it, and carrying on play while Houghton lay in a crumpled heap. The man’s still got it in the locker!
Just to show you how unserious this game was, the teams also included Angry Ginge, Bear Grills, Paddy McGuinness and Bella Ramsey. So it’s funny that Bonucci would go into a tackle on anyone like this, but especially a female player during a charity game.
Obviously Houghton can take it and wouldn’t want it any other way, and the two of them even joked about it after the game.
So just remember, whether it’s a world cup final, charity match, 5-a-side at the park, Bonucci is putting in tackles like the rent is due. At least Steph Houghton knows for next time.
