In case you missed it: 18-year-old British girl Bella May Culley sparked a massive international search operation this week after going missing in Thailand, only to pop up 4,000 miles away in Georgia where she was busted with 14kg of cannabis in her suitcase at Tbilisi International Airport.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Bella told Tbilisi city court during her first hearing that she’s “pregnant”, which isn’t exactly ideal given she’s looking at 20 years – life imprisonment for international drugs smuggling.

Naturally, Bella’s family are beside themselves with worry, and are convinced that she was ‘taken advantage of’ by experienced criminals during her trip to Thailand, or the Philippines where she had been earlier.

bella may - search to find her, has been arrested in Georgia on 'drug offences.' Bella May Culley, 18, from Billingham, County Durham, had been travelling around the country with a friend but had not been heard from since Saturday. Her phone was said to have been turned off and she was last thought to be in the Pattaya area, which is close to Bangkok. But now, Cleveland Police has said that authorities in Georgia have confirmed that 'an 18-year-old woman from Billingham has been arrested there on suspicion of drugs offences and that she remains in their custody.'

Her granddad William Culley, 80, told the Mail:

‘I’m terrified that she’s in for a long sentence. I might never see her again – I’m 80 years old.

‘She’s got sucked into something, somehow. She’s not an international drug trafficker.

‘Can she even tell them who’s given her the drugs to take over? I bet she doesn’t.

‘These people keep out of the way. It’s all just very strange and at the moment we just don’t have any answers.

‘We don’t know what to think. She was just going on holiday and then we never heard from her… she was drinking and dancing like normal teenagers do. Someone has taken advantage of her.’

Damn, poor granddad. Like he says, it’s doubtful he’s ever going to see his granddaughter again. Unfortunately, she technically is an international drug trafficker, although he’s almost certainly correct that she was coerced into it by people far more experienced than her.

Before going radio silent on May 6, Bella had been sharing pictures of herself diving and partying on the tropical islands of Palawan and Panay in the Philippines.

She also shared images of herself with a pile of cash notes held together by a hairband on TikTok and Instagram.

In another pic, she made references to notorious criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde.

Her granddad added:

‘She’s not daft, she’s an intelligent girl. Why has she done it?

‘Has someone dangled money in front of her? We just don’t know what has gone on until we get out there and talk to her.

‘We are just hoping that somebody can do something. She must be terrified.’

As stupid as what Bella did was, it’s important to remember that this girl is 18 years old and it’s pretty tragic to think that she may have completely ruined her life because some Georgian gangster (or whatever) who she met in the Philippines or Thailand sweettalked her and convinced her to smuggle 14kg of cannabis into Georgia. Not to mention that it’s potentially the same person who got her pregnant, too.

I’m not sure what the British government can do to help Bella at this stage, but we’ll keep you posted as things develop.
