This might look like just some regular photo, but it’s actually one of the most expensive photos in the world having sold for a bonkers $1,000,000+.

The photo, titled “Potato #345 (2010)” is by photographer Kevin Abosch, who usually spends his time charging huge fees to shoot portraits of famous business people in San Francisco (anywhere from $150,000 – $500,000).

In addition to this he is also a fine art photographer, which is how this potato happened.

His studio says:

Kevin likes potatoes because they, like people are all different yet immediately identifiable as being essentially of the same species. He has photographed many potatoes. This one is one of his favourites.

Well no shit it’s one of his favourite potatoes; it just made him over a million dollars. The rest of us are slaving away in the office or going hard at school/uni and here’s this guy who just made more money than the rest of us will ever see in our lifetimes by selling a picture of a potato. It’s literally a potato in front of black backdrop. What’s the difference between this and me taking a photo of a potato right now and putting on Instagram? I’d get about 12 likes and this dude gets a million dollars.

Still at least it wasn’t a blue rectangle with a white line down the middle. How the actual fuck did that sell for $43.8 million?
