There was nothing like the old Streets Of Rage style video games where you basically have to beat up the entire city in your quest to save your girlfriend or something. Streets Of Rage pioneered the genre, but there were countless other games that you would waste your time playing in the arcade like The Punisher, The Simpsons, Cadillacs And Dinosaurs, Double Dragon and Final Fight that followed the template set out for them perfectly.

Since the late 90s though, the sideways scrolling beat em up seemed to die a death as consoles got my powerful and games all became 3D. But the guys over at MakinGames (who used to work for Rare who made Banjo Kazooie, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong 64 etc) are looking to bring it back with the announcement of Ragin’ Justice a sideway scrolling beat ’em up that features the characters of Rick Justice and Nikki Rage.

It looks pretty much exactly how you would expect it to look, but here’s the trailer anyway:

Nice. Not sure if I’m as excited about a game like that in 2018 as I thought I would be – it literally looks exactly the same as it did back then with slightly better graphics – but I would definitely be up for playing it. Not really sure why they’re so obsessed about the fact they’ve managed to get lawnmowers in either, but hey I guess it’s a wacky extra option for them to talk about. Got me interested to be fair.
