Wordle is probably one of the success stories of the year so far as it went from a little known app to one that literally everyone in the world uses every day in what felt like a couple of weeks, but obviously now that it’s super successful people are going to rag on it for the dumbest reasons (obvious spoilers for today’s Wordle if you haven’t played it yet).

As many of you are probably aware, today is International Women’s Day and unlike most years, there hasn’t been an outcry about why we’re celebrating when there isn’t an International Men’s Day (there is), but instead a lot of people have taken aim at Wordle after the mystery word wasn’t anything to do with the occasion. The word turned out to be sweet, but several people took to Twitter in anger that IWD seemed to be directly overlooked by the app and possibly that the word had been chosen as one of attributes most associated with women, which might be kind of nice but it also a bit condescending.

Yeah, I don’t really know about this. No doubt that International Women’s Day is an important event that is still discriminated against by stupid men almost every year and also does a lot to celebrate the amazing women in our lives, but I don’t necessarily think that means that Wordle has to change their word to reflect this. Pretty much every single day of the year has some kind of holiday attached to it these days and/or at any one moment there is some kind of situation in the world that Wordle could raise awareness about due to its massive reach, so where do you draw the line? Why not just leave the politics/whatever out of it and just play the game and try and enjoy it hey?

For more of the same, check out these Sick Chirpse confessions concerning Wordle. Damn app really is everywhere these days.
