Vanilla Ice — Ice Ice Baby 1990 vs Queen & David Bowie — Under Pressure 1981

It’s a general misconception that Vanilla Ice “sampled” the bass riff from Under Pressure, and in a way he did. But rather than phone Queen and Mr Bowie to ask if it was OK he merely changed it slightly in the hope it would go unrecognised, stating they were different as he had added a note. The song started out as a B side to Ice’s shit cover of Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music” but when a club DJ played the B side, it caught on quicker that a shell suit catching fire. Soon after Ice quashed his last statement stating that it was said as a joke and paid Queen and Bowie their royalties accordingly.
