São Paulo by Luciano Spinelli

This is a picture of a desolate ruined house and wall in Sao Paulo, found in one of Sao Paulo’s many derelict neighbourhoods. You can see clearly the graffiti on the wall that says ‘celacanto provoke marmot.’ This is a reference to the phrase that was written all over the slums of Rio Di Janeiro in the 1970s.

It’s a reference to a weird Japanese cartoon called National Kid that achieved cult status in Brazil around this time. Loosely translated, the phrase means ‘celecanto causes tsunamis’ and is a reference to the villain from the series’ submarine. Weird graffiti but pretty cool reference if you’re into National Kid.
