After his side finished fifth in the Premier League last season, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had to make some big changes over the summer. Several players left the club in the summer transfer window, including club captain Jordan Henderson.

Klopp identified the areas of his team that he needed investment, and the early signs suggest that has paid off, as they are back in contention for the Premier League title along with their rivals Manchester City.

Liverpool Amongst The Favourites

After winning eight of their opening 13 matches and losing just once, those who bet on sports will know Liverpool are 9/2 to win the Premier League title this season, just behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

Liverpool are likely to be a popular topic for sports tips in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign as Klopp’s summer signings have now settled into the team. They were unbeaten in the Premier League throughout October and November, with wins coming against Everton, Nottingham Forest and Brentford.

The Merseyside club are two points behind Arsenal and they trail the defending champion Manchester City by a point following the opening 13 matches this season. Only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than the Reds during that period, as Klopp’s side have been defensively very strong.

Excellent Draw At Etihad Stadium

Klopp will be buoyed by the result his side produced away to Manchester City in their recent Premier League fixture. They were behind against the hosts in that game until Trent Alexander-Arnold equalised with a fantastic strike in the 80th minute.

The positive result at the Etihad Stadium showed that Liverpool have the class and fight to compete for the Premier League title this season. They sent a clear message to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that they were in the race for the league title.

The 1-1 draw was a much different performance from the one Liverpool produced last season. They were hammered 4-1 by their rivals when they visited Manchester in April, so Klopp will be pleased they bounced back from that result.

Salah In Red Hot Form In Front Of Goal

Liverpool’s results this season have been helped by the form Mo Salah has been in. He has scored 10 goals in his opening 13 Premier League matches. When he scored in the victory over Nottingham Forest at Anfield, he became the third Liverpool player in history to score in each of the Reds’ opening five league games.

Salah is second in the Premier League goalscoring standings this season, and he is likely to be in contention for the Golden Boot once again. He has won the award three times in the last five years, including two years ago when he shared the prize with Son Heung-min.

The Egypt international was linked with a move away from Liverpool last summer but the club had no intention of losing their star forward. He is on the brink of 200 goals for the Reds and he is edging closer to Ian Rush in the all-time standings.

With a lot of football still to be played this season, Klopp will be hoping his side can continue their hot form into the new year when the title race could hot up.
