You may remember at the Met Gala a month or so back that Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress – the one in which she serenaded JFK in 1962 – with media outlets making a big deal out of the fact that Kim spent 3 weeks losing 16 pounds in order to fit into it.

Historians and archivists warned the nerds at Ripley Entertainment to NOT let Kim – or anyone – borrow the dress, seeing as it’s kept in a museum, is worth $10 million, and the most expensive dress ever sold at auction. Well Kim was able to persuade them somehow, under strict agreement that no alterations be made whatsoever (hence why she lost all that weight to fit into it). But even still, it didn’t quite fit Kim’s frame and she was unable to zip the dress, which is why she draped herself with a white fur shawl on the red carpet. She even said herself on said carpet:

“I tried it on and it didn’t fit me. It was such a challenge. It was like a role, I was determined to fit in it.”

She managed to squeeze into it anyway, and got what she wanted: everyone talking about her and taking loads of pictures. Well, a month on from the event, the NY Post is reporting that the dress now shows signs of tearing, and several crystals are either missing or hanging off of it.

The Marylin Monroe Collection Instagram even fired off a number of posts with feisty captions confirming that Kim returned the dress damaged:

As Ripley’s say, they did at least try to protect the dress from Kim’s enormous butt:

“We basically had many conversations with Kim and her team and put a lot of requirements in place with security and with the handling of the dress. The dress was never with Kim alone. It was always with a Ripley’s representative. We always ensured that at any time we felt that the dress was in danger of ripping or we felt uncomfortable about anything, we always had the ability to be able to say we not were going to continue with this.”

Well, what did they expect would happen? If you want to preserve a historic dress and keep it in pristine condition, you don’t let someone wear it. Even if it’s Kim Kardashian or any other idiot celebrity who wants to show off how disgustingly rich and powerful they are at the Met Gala. Lesson learned!
