K-pop idol Karina, 1/4 of mega popular girl group Aespa, has issued a heartfelt apology to her devastated fans after committing the mortal sin of… having a boyfriend?

Karina’s fans accused the 23-year-old of betraying them and threatened to boycott her music in the wake of news that she’s dating actor Lee Jae-wook, 25, pictured below, saying hello:

A group of fans even drove a truck bearing a digital billboard which they parked outside Karina’s record label, demanding an explanation, promising a decline in album and ticket sales, and displaying messages that included: ‘Is the love given to you by your fans not enough?’

And I thought Swifties were insane!

Amazingly, Karina took the time to write her furious fans a note, apologising to her 12.7 million followers for having a boyfriend, and promising to ‘mend the wounds’ she had inflicted on them. Here’s what she wrote:

“Hello, this is Karina. I’m sorry for surprising and causing concern to my fans. I know many of you may have been disappointed, and I’m aware of the sadness recalling our shared moments brings. I deeply feel the regret and apologize for any hurt. I hope this letter conveys some of my feelings. I write this with the sincere intention of expressing my apologies to the fans who have given me the warmest winter since my debut. I want to mend any wounds and continue to grow with you all. Thank you for understanding, and I promise to work hard and mature without disappointing you in the future. Take care and let’s meet again with a brighter image. I’m sorry and grateful.”

Mental. The idea that her record label insisted that she put out an apology for having a boyfriend is just too crazy to think about, but then it could be that Karina has decided to put the band first and decided herself to just do what’s best for business. Which I guess is fair enough, because apparently there’s no reasoning with crazy K-pop stans. Remains to be seen whether she’s forgiven or whether she has to dump the guy to fully redeem herself.
