Remember a couple of years ago when Justin Bieber challenged Tom Cruise to an MMA fight out of absolutely nowhere?

Most of us just laughed that off as Bieber being weird on social media, but it turned out that there was some kind of truth to it as the top singer seems somewhat eager to move into the world of combat sports. Apparently, he’s been having secret boxing lessons to prepare for a role in a biopic about Ukrainian fighter Dmitriy Salita and screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard has been very impressed with his skillset:

From what I’ve seen of Justin Bieber, he has the talent and the boxing skill to crossover from an entertainment background into boxing – he has the ability to become the next Jake Paul.

I saw Justin spar and he’s got skills. I’m not telling you he’s ready to be the middleweight champion of the world but he’s not bad.

The hard thing in a boxing movie is to move like a boxer. Justin Bieber apparently was taking some lessons, he was really quite credible.

There’s a little clip of him on YouTube or something. He’s very credible as a boxer.

Yeah I’m not gonna pretend to be at the forefront of knowledge about boxing but it seems kind of unlikely to me that Bieber could actually do something in the boxing world because there’s a little clip of him training to play a boxer in a movie where he looks convincing. Isn’t that the whole definition of acting?

To be fair though, everybody thought that Jake Paul was going to be a loser when he stepped into the boxing ring and look at him now. Crazy things can happen in 2022 – although it should probably also be noted that Bieber himself hasn’t explicitly stated that this is something he’s interested in. He has always dabbled with boxing though so we probably shouldn’t rule it out.
