7. Melvin Udall — As Good As It Gets
Nicholson won an Oscar for his portrayal of paranoid, misanthropic, reclusive, super OCD-suffering author Melvin. He even made the really annoying-faced Helen Hunt tolerable.
6. Frank Costello — The Departed
This was the last great movie that Nicholson was in, and he nailed it as terrifying Boston gangland boss Frank Costello. An absolute dream cast and superbly engaging film.
