The Guy Who Lived Off Fish And Rice Cakes Is Now Absolutely Hench

Guess he got that last laugh.

I’m no expert on dieting or what food you need to eat in order to bulk up and be a bodybuilder, but I’m sure I wasn’t alone when we were all laughing at 16 year old wannabe gym monkey Danny Andrews explain his daily diet in a BBC Three documentary years and years ago.

Well, it looks like we shouldn’t have been laughing because Andrews has definitely got the last laugh as he’s now completely and utterly ripped. Unfortunately, he didn’t achieve his impressive looking physique by only eating fish and rice cakes and actually expanded his diet in order to reach them gains.

Here’s what he had to say about his journey:

Some people rip me saying I thought fish was brain food, but clearly it’s not.

People ask if I was sponsored by Captain Birdseye. People have made memes and remixes on YouTube, also Scott Mills used to play it weekly, he even spoke to Jake Gyllenhaal about it.

My diet was only that for the last two weeks before my show – I don’t actually like fish. Instead of saying I have eight meals of fish a day, and every other meal I have a rice cake, I was trying to work out times.

So it makes me appear absolutely stupid, fitting the stereotype of the typical bodybuilder.

At the time I was so embarrassed, but I have embraced it.

I look completely different now when I say I’m into the gym people ask if I’m on the fish and the rice cakes, not knowing it’s me.

There you go – whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Literally.

Danny isn’t even a professional bodybuilder, instead owning his own barber shop in Preston, but hopes to get back to it soon. Maybe he’ll only eat fish and rice cakes in the run up to his first tournament back, who knows?
