I didn’t expect to wake up today to see everyone posting videos of Gerard Way wearing a cheerleader outfit on stage at the My Chemical Romance gig last night in Nashville, Tennessee but here we are and that’s exactly what’s happening.

My Chemical Romance kicked off their long awaited North American tour at the weekend and even though they’ve been performing two super rare deep cuts from their back catalogue (‘Back In Black’ and ‘This Is The Best Day Ever’), all the talk has been about Gerard’s outfit from last night. Some people are obviously questioning his sexuality because of this, but anyone who knows anything about Gerard Way will know that he’s always struggled with his femininity/gender identity and so this is pretty much an awesome natural progression for the guy.

Okay all jokes aside i’m really happy that gerard feels comfortable enough to publicly defy gender norms because theyve been very open in the past about struggling with gender and feeling more connected to femininity

OK well first of all it’s great to see so many positive reactions to Gerard deciding to wear a dress. I won’t pretend to know about all his fluidity and gender dysphoria issues as I’m not a huge MCR/Gerard Way fan, but the main take from all this is that he seems very happy with his decision to step onto stage in this way. Hopefully it inspires other people who feel the same way as him to take that step. Go Gerard go!
