2. Hunger Strike

Demonax (awesome name) was a much-loved philosopher who liked to solve people’s problems for free because he enjoyed it.

When he got so old that he believed he could no longer take care of himself, he stopped eating and starved himself to death rather than burden others with looking after him.

Pretty mental, but I guess you can respect it.

1. Child Expert Abandons His Own Children

Genevan philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau fathered five kids and abandoned all of them at birth at the door of an orphanage, because back then abandoning your kids and boasting of sexual conquests was all the rage and even highly respected.

Regardless, he was considered quite the expert on education and child-rearing, despite other philosophers such as Voltaire calling him out on his hypocrisy.
