I’ve sometimes questioned how structures like dams or oil rigs are able to be made effectively, but I’ll be honest I’ve never really done any research into the subject.

Turns out that it’s all thanks to the underwater welding community and as you might expect, it’s one of the most dangerous jobs in the world – although if you’re willing to do it then you’re likely going to make some major dough. The short documentary below spells out the risks and benefits of the career and if you’re anything like me will make you feel extremely anxious about whether or not the people involved are going to make it out alive:

Jesus. That looks stressful doesn’t it? Every single day you just have to descend on down to the bottom of the sea and have no idea if you’re going to come out the other end, and it might not even be through any fault of your own. I suppose that’s why they’re earning bank though.

However, the worst part about it is that according to some of the comments on YouTube from people that ‘knew people’ who have done underwater welding in the past is that they all say that giant barracudas and squids and all kinds of weird sea creatures would float up behind them whilst they were welding and scare the absolute shit out of them. No thank you – keep your money.

For more of the same, check out some of these photographs of some of the most messed up underwater creatures. Actually terrifying.
