English hearts were broken yet again on Saturday night after the men’s football team crashed out of another World Cup, this time at the hands of France after Harry Kane missed a penalty that would have at least brought the teams level – although it’s anyone’s guess what could have happened after that.

England captain Kane apologised and took responsibility for the miss in his post match interview and social media posts, but a body language expert is saying that he blames Gareth Southgate for the loss and that there’s some kind of issue between the two of them. Check out what Darren Stanton had to say below:

When Kane looks down to consider his answer after being asked a question about where things went wrong, he displays auditory internal dialogue, which is a sign that someone is rehearsing what they are about to say to ensure they don’t say anything out of emotion which could lead to an answer he may regret.

When Kane was asked about the team and Gareth Southgate, his eyebrows came together and were pierced, this tells me that he holds Southgate responsible for a lot of what has happened.

As Kane continues to speak, he expresses what we call a bilateral shoulder shrug when being asked about Southgate. A bilateral shoulder shrug is essentially one shoulder being raised rather than both shoulders, meaning ‘I’m not sure, I don’t know.’

The significance of the bilateral shoulder shrug means that the person is trying to convey something which they unconsciously have no confidence in what they are saying.

My initial reaction says is that Kane holds Southgate responsible, maybe they have had an internal disagreement on strategy but there is something definitely more going on between them.

Hmm that does sound like a bit of a beg doesn’t it and probably more just Darren Stanton trying to make some money from a controversial opinion. I get that everything Kane and Southgate both said after the result was very diplomatic and robot like but I don’t really think there’s some major problem between them – that’s literally how both of them act all the time anyway.

They’re just boring people that try to mask their emotions to be more successful when it comes to elite sport. Just a shame that it hasn’t seemed to have worked out for either of them. Yet.

For more of the same, check out this body language expert explaining why Will Smith’s slap was real. Think I probably believe that though.
