Many thought that we would never hear from At The Drive In following their internal combustion back in 2001, but here we are in 2016 and not only are they playing Reading and Leeds Festivals next year, they’re also releasing new music.

They dropped their first new song in 17 years last night on YouTube with the lyric video, which you can see below. It’s called Governed By Contagions and it’s pretty much everything you would want in an At The Drive In song to sound like. All big riffs, fast and hard drums and Cedric shouting nonsense over the top of it. You’ve gotta love a band that have a chorus that says ‘How many bites do you think it takes to get to the cyanide tooth?’ What the fuck does that even mean?

Yeah, it’s pretty cool. I figured it was going to be really really disappointing because that’s what always seems to happen when bands get back together after a long time off and make new music (hello Refused) but I found this strangely satisfying. Looking forward to the new album now where I was obviously cautious before.

For more At The Drive In, check out their performance at Coachella a couple of years ago. Legendary.
