A Woman In The Philippines Prayed To Shrek Instead Of Buddha For Four Years

A woman in the Philippines spent four years worshipping a green “Buddha” figure she bought from a shop, before realising the Buddha figure she’d been praying to was actually Shrek.

The woman bought the figurine in a shop in Manila and placed it on her home altar. She lit incense around it daily and prayed like a good Buddhist.

Eventually, a friend who went round pointed out that it wasn’t Buddha at all, but rather a 3D-printed model of Shrek.

Oh well, it’s the thought that counts eh? I’m sure the Buddha still heard her prayers even though she was saying them in front of Shrek instead. In fact he probably found it hilarious. Not to mention – Shrek has Buddha nature too!

According to the South China Morning Post, the woman plans on continuing to worship the Shrek statue. Doesn’t seem to have done her any harm in the last four years, I suppose. There are plenty of worse idols, after all.
