I’m not talking about making millions of pounds dealing cocaine unfortunately, but the next best thing: renting a room at his former Mexican hideaway that has now been converted into a five star resort named Casa Malca.
It’s located in Tullum, Mexico near the famed ruins and a room will set you back around £375 a night. It looks like it’s worth it though as the place has its own private beach, three swimming pools, two on site restaurants and a bar, an underground steam room, an events space and it’s also eco friendly. Food is sourced locally from the Yucatan or Casa Malca’s own private garden.
The site sat empty for over a decade after Escobar’s death in the 1980s until 2003, when art dealer Lio Malca decided to renovate it by installing pieces of his own private art collection:
I saw many different properties, but I kept asking about this one.
I could not believe that in this world, a property like this still exists and hasn’t been taken over by a corporation.
He’s got a point there. The place looks absolutely beautiful and the nearby sea has crystal clear waters as well. Thinking about doing the next Sick Chirpse retreat there to be honest – shouldn’t set us back too much.
