37-year-old Lorraine Burnett from Scotland had no idea when she attended her work Christmas do that she’d end up with just one leg. Usually the worst case scenario is shagging a colleague or vomiting over your boss. Not losing a limb.

The incident came about because of Lorraine’s specially bought Christmas party shoes, which caused a blister on her leg. At first she thought it would just heal on its own, but after two years of repeated infections, she was given the devastating news that her lower left leg would need to be amputated.

Now Lorraine is speaking out about the experience and says that she wishes for a new leg to replace the standard one issued by the NHS:

A new leg would mean a new life for me.

I’d stayed out dancing until the early hours, so thought nothing of achy feet.

But then two years later I was having my leg removed. It breaks my heart to think my five inch heels cost me my leg.

Apparently Lorraine was out until 2am on the pub crawl and said that her sore feet were caused by dancing all night:

The next day, there was a big red blister on my left leg. Being a carer, I knew what I needed to do – just clean it and dress it.

But after a week, it was so painful so I went to the doctors and was prescribed antibiotics.

I really thought they would help as it just seemed like a bad wound.

However, it didn’t heal and in fact her condition just worsened. She was eventually forced to make the devastating decision of enduring endless infections for the rest of her life or have the lower leg removed. She went with the latter and even now after the lengthy operation, Lorraine suffers serious infections on her stump. There is a picture, which we will link to, but I’m warning you – it ain’t pretty. That poor woman. Fingers crossed her family all pitch in to get her the prosthetic leg that she deserves.

If any of you are attending your work Christmas do soon, please take this story as a warning not to go too hard on the dance floor. Or else it could end in disaster.
