It’s been a couple of years since we last encountered Martin Scorsese on the big screen in ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’, and it seems like he’s gone a completely different route for his next project with ‘Silence’ as it’s set in 17th century Japan.

The official blurb for the epic looking movie goes like this:

Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas.

28 year journey, that’s a hella a long time. Glad he finally managed to get to make this passion project and from the trailer it looks like it’s going to be an absolute classic. I mean I know it’s about spreading the word of the Bible, but the trailer makes that look super sexy and dangerous and it looks like theres’ going to be countless tension filled moments throughout the movie. It also hints at a lot of violence and weird brutality/torture too and it’ll probably end up making you cry as well – pretty much everything you want in a movie right?

Let’s hope it delivers when it drops sometime over Christmas. In the meantime, remember this stupid advert featuring Scorsese, DiCaprio and De Niro? If only that was a real movie eh?
