As everyone in the world – even people that probably live on the most remote island anywhere – knows by now, Nate Diaz made Conor McGregor tap out a few weeks ago and we all thought that was that for Conor McGregor and his attempt to move up into he welterweight division of UFC, and he was probably going to drop down a weight to defend his featherweight title a few times. I mean that’s even what the guy himself said he was going to do, so why wouldn’t we believe him?

Well, it looks like we’ve been sold down the river with that one because the rumours going around right now are that UFC are pretty close to announcing the rematch between the two as the main event of the mammoth UFC 200 on the 9th July. Clear your calendars now and get the beers in because that is going to be one massive party.

The fact of the matter comes down to this I suppose – the Diaz V McGregor fight was a humongous success last time and the UFC only had 11 days to promote it after Rafael Dos Anjos pulled out of the fight at the last minute. Now, with a whole three months to promote it and the added beef between McGregor and Diaz after Diaz made him tap out last time, it’s going to be even bigger and make everyone even more money the second time around.

So yeah it’s a no brainer basically. Aldo and Frankie Edgar are going to have to wait for their lightweight title shots I guess because this is what the people want to see.

Here’s a documentary charting Conor McGregor’s rise to the top too.
