19-year-old Scott Kinsey opted for the quantity over quality approach when attempting to court a girl named Katie Hawkins via text message — sending what could possibly be a record breaking 11,400 texts to her in one month. Just to her!

OK, technically only 7,791 of the messages were sent by text and the remaining 3,619 were sent over Facebook, but who’s counting? Judge Michael Mettyer of Hull Crown Court. that’s who. He gave Kinsey 12 months (suspended sentence) in a young offender’s institute for harassment and witness intimidation.

As you might’ve guessed, Kinsey had a bit of a crush on Katie and I guess wanted to check whether she’d changed her mind about dating him 300 times a day after she initially turned him down.

As for the actual content of the messages, it gets pretty dark. In one he threatens to rape her granddad (huh?):

“I will come back from hell and kill you. And when I come back from hell I am going to rape your granddad.”

Blimey! In another text he sent her a picture of a dead body, an axe and some swords, announcing that he was heading down to Driffield to kill her and her boyfriend.

He also sent this absolute peach to one of Katie’s friends:

I will get level with her one day. Mark my words. You can tell her I am getting more pissed off. I will see her. I will do something I will regret. She had best keep her house alarm on. I will kill her! She is mine!

Not a very mature way of dealing with things, is it? Always best to think these menacing granddad rape/death threats through before actually vocalising them or putting them into a text message. Can’t imagine that ever turns out well for anyone. Hopefully Scott has learnt his lesson on this one and Kinsey’s granddad doesn’t have a coronary reading about it.
