‘Stranger Things’ has completely blown up since it came out – Netflix did a good job there – and one of the biggest parts of it has undoubtedly been the soundtrack.

Earlier Netflix and Lakeshore Records shared ‘She’ll Kill You’ from the upcoming two-volume soundtrack and now they’ve revealed ‘A Kiss’. The 80s classics were composed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of Austin-based synthesizer band SURVIVE. Volume one is officially on release today so better keep an eye out. Volume two is dropping on August 19th.

Dixon and Stein wrote in a statement:

The directors were previously fans of SURVIVE.

They used a song from our first LP in a trailer they made to pitch their concept to Netflix. Once the show was picked up, they reached out to see if we were available to score the show. We discussed having a classic tone and feel to the music for the show, but being reserved enough that it wasn’t 80s cheese, while offering a refreshing quality so [it] felt modern.

They definitely have captured the classic tone with spiky chords and spare, synthetic bass lines. Can’t wait to hear the volume. Definitely one for the collection.

For more on 80s-style soundtracks, did you know that the ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ soundtrack is now finally available.
