You’ve no doubt heard the reports of sexual abuse in Hollywood recently, and it turns out that the overtly sexualised and male dominant culture with the industry is prevalent even amongst young children as evidenced by this recent story from the set of everybody’s favourite new TV show Stranger Things.

If you haven’t watched series 2 of Stranger Things then you probably shouldn’t be reading this and this is your fair warning. In the final episode, Max ends up sharing a bit of a smooch with Lucas at the Hawkins Middle School ‘Snow Ball’ dance, but it turns out that even though this was a nice moment on the show, the truth behind it is a lot more sinister.

Sadie Sink – who plays Max – was appearing on Beyond Stranger Things along with the Duffer Brothers to talk about the finale, when the subject of the kiss was brought up. Here’s what went down (in video or text form):

Sadie: I get there, the first day of filming the Snowball and walking in I see the decorations and stuff. One of you, I think it was you Ross, you say, ‘Ooh, Sadie, you ready for the kiss?’ I’m like, ‘What! No! That’s not in the script… that’s not happening.

So the whole day I was like stressed out, I was like oh my god, wait, am I gonna have to…is it gonna happen, is it not… and it didn’t happen that day, but then the second day of filming the Snowball.

Ross Duffer: You reacted so strongly to this. I was just joking, And you were so freaked out that I was like well, I gotta make her do it now…

Sink: “That’s why it’s my fault?”

Duffer: That’s why I’m saying it’s your fault.

Sink: I was really stressed out as the kiss was filmed in front of a full room of people, including our parents, the crew, and my mum.

I mean that is kinda gross isn’t it? This grown man saw that a young girl was pretty uncomfortable about doing something, and so then made her do it even though he knew that it would probably make her way more uncomfortable and there wasn’t really anything she could do to stop it? It’s made even worse by the fact that i’s sexual in nature too. When are all these dude bros gonna get a clue and stop acting like complete assholes all the time?
