Here’s the trailer to Square Grouper, a documentary about people smuggling weed into the USA through Florida in the 1970’s. A Square Grouper is ‘a slang term for a bale of marijuana thrown overboard or out of airplanes in South Florida in the 1970’s and 1980’s.’ A BALE OF MARIJUANA! Wow, that’s like a bale of hay. Only of marijuana. That’s a lot of weed, dude.
Square Grouper looks kinda tacky but then a lot of the footage is from the actual 70’s so I don’t think there’s anyway it couldn’t. It looks as though it features some interesting characters too – redneck pirates, some dude who founded a church – the Ethiopian Zion Catholic Church – to cover up his marijuana smuggling and the longest serving non-violent marijuana prisoner in America’s history.
