The Saw franchise is one of the most successful in recent memory – earning $416,915,060 at the box office alone – so it’s no surprise that they were going to revive it, around seven years after what they promised us was the final chapter.

This information has been available for a while, although we haven’t known any of the plot details, what the movie would be called or the release date until today. The next movie is clearly going to be some kind of reboot of the franchise, cleverly entitled ‘Jigsaw’. As always it’s going to be released Halloween weekend – October 28th to be precise.

Here’s the teaser announcement and the plot synopsis below:

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise.

As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer.

But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade.

Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?

Well, I’m fairly certain that it’s going to be an apprentice and they’re almost certainly going to be involved in the investigation too. Sure, Tobin Bell (the original Jigsaw) is scheduled to appear, but he always shows up in Flashbacks so I doubt that he’s still alive.

Still looking forward to this one though. The last few Saw movies were kind of incoherent gory messes, so hopefully this one gets the franchise back on track after a break. We can but hope.
