A company in America came under fire recently after they started selling a range of merchandise with prolific child murderer Myra Hindley’s face on.

Quite rightly people were pretty pissed off at the range released by Society6, which included clothes, pillow cases and iPhone cases. Either these guys are sick mother fuckers or they are completely clueless and just thought it made a cool looking picture. Either way it’s dumb and offensive.

Illustrator Paul Nelson-Esch, who designed the image, previously created works on singers such as Bjork, Johnny Cash, Debbie Harry and Freddie Mercury. Not really sure why he thought it would be a good idea to jump from musical legends to child killers.

If you are unaware of who Myra Hindley is (how?) she and Ian Brady killed five children and buried their bodies on Saddleworth Moor back in the 60s. Hence why people are pretty horrified at this Faux Pas.

Some even left their views on the seller’s website. One comment says:

This is abhorrent. And featuring a child murderer in your range alongside artists like Winehouse and Bjork shows such an extreme lack of humanity and awareness that it is almost comical. Almost. What it actually is, is thoroughly disgusting.

I’m not arguing the ethics of art, it’s a fine portrait and well rendered – I’m arguing the ethics of putting Myra Hindley on sale as something to wear to express your personality.

Her victims’ families are still alive, who in their right mind finds her aspirational enough to put on a T-shirt let alone buy and wear it around.

If I were to see a person wearing this, I would have absolutely no hesitation in telling them to their face that they are a waste of atoms. Foul play.

Ouch. Another guy wrote:

You would seriously sell a T-shirt with a child murderer on it? Really??

The company has now taken down the items, which leads me to assume that they were too clueless to even know who she was and just thought that it looked like a cool, iconic image. I wonder who they’ll get on there next? Maybe a bit of Jeffrey Dahmer? Or for a romantic vibe, how about Fred and Rose West? They could get a whole serial killer range on the go.

Seriously though, pretty bad move, although they’ve probably learned their lesson. For more inappropriate merchandise, check out this 50 Shades of Grey clothing range for babies.
