In some of the weirdest news I think I’ve ever heard, it’s emerged that there’s a subculture of people having ‘extreme’ sex parties, where everyone has unprotected sex and one person has HIV. Sounds like a lot of fun?

Apparently these are going on amongst wealthy gay communities in Barcelona and Serbia, but they could be happening pretty much anywhere, we just don’t know about them yet. Dr Josep Mallolas of Hospital Clinic Barcelona had this to say about them:

They show that people are losing respect for HIV.

There is everything: sex roulette parties, or sex parties you can only attend if you already have HIV.

Some of them are known as ‘blue’ parties as guests take anti-viral medication to cut their risks of transmitting the virus.

Hmmm, that kinda sounds like it’s defeating the object of going to an HIV party, although I’m not really sure what the point of going to an HIV party is if you don’t want to at least have a chance of contracting the virus? I mean why not just go to a regular orgy instead if the chance of getting HIV has been eliminated?

A Serbian stripper named Tijana says that the parties originated in Serbia and are called Serbian sex roulette after Russian roulette:

This bizarre variation that seems popular for extreme sex. People who turn up for the party wear masks, and one of them has HIV.

The wealthy organise these sex parties for other rich people. The real kick for these people is apparently the risk that they might be the one having sex with the HIV-infected partner.

Sounds like a real kick, unless it’s one of those boring ‘blue’ parties of course. Needless to say, all of this stuff sounds pretty fucked up and not something I ever want to be involved in. If people want to willingly infect themselves with HIV though, that’s up to them I suppose. Fair.
